David Polk

David continues to do well. He returned to school after the holidays and had just about caught up with all the school work he missed the 2 months he was in the hospital and at home. He has come over several times in the last 3 or 4 weeks and played with my dog Buster . I took a picture of them and hope to have here soon. He limps around and is doing well.

Sorry for not having updated this site in awhile. I'll try and bring you up to date. A few day before Christmas members of the Bykota lodge came by David's house and delivered the check from the spaghetti dinner. The also brought over a lot of presents which were shared with Caleb Walker who was also involved . David and his family had a wonderful Christmas .

Plans are for David to return to school tomorrow . I was talking with his grandmother and she said , David has yet to face his disability . He has had a lot of attention and has come a long way. He still has a lot of things to overcome . Like how will he feels when he returns to school and is unable to run and play with his schoolmates and friends ?

Don't forget about the fund that has been set up at Fidelity Federal to help with David's medical cost. To find the nearest branch office you can go to http://www.fidelityfederal.com/site/hurricane_list.html .

The spaghetti dinner benefit turned out great. The food was excellent and thanks to those who prepared and served the food. As well as those who organized the event. Many people including myself ate and then brought out take out boxes . My dog Buster and I visited with David on Saturday morning , they hadn't played together since a few minutes before the accident. Everyone enjoyed it, David's grandfather took a picture and I wanted to  post it here so that everyone can see how well David is doing . Ok , I like to show off Buster too <grin>.

Here is that picture. Just Click on the thumbnail to get a bigger picture .

I just found out that the spaghetti dinner benefit for David at the Bykota lodge on 400 block of Jennings Ave in Greenacres , will be held on Saturday December 11th and not Friday the 10th as previous posted on here.

Great news from David's grandfather, David has his cast off his arm and had a catscan. The blood that was on his brain is gone. He seems to be slowly but surely improving .

Saturday December 4th 2004

Great News to report. David is home and recovering slowly . David came home on Tuesday November 30th and was greeted my friends and neighbors. I brought my dog Buster over and the 2 of them were very happy to see each other. Then Caleb Walker who also was involved in the accident ( Caleb has a broken leg and is in a wheelchair ) came over blindfolded and was overjoyed to see David . They hadn't seen each other since the accident. Caleb is having a birthday party today and David is planning to attend. One of the neighbors took some pictures and once I get a copy of them I'll post them here.

Update on the spaghetti dinner. It will be held on Friday December 10th at the Bykota lodge on Jennings Ave in Greenacres. It will be held from 5pm to 8pm and tickets are $7 a plate. All the proceeds are going towards David's medical cost.

Wednesday December 1st 2004

I wanted to add that I had forgotten to mention the blood drive that David's teacher Francine Savoie helped organize at Heritage Elementary on November 17th . Channel 12 news was there and reported that over 60 people donated blood that day .

David is slowly showing improvement . He has a long road ahead, but appears to be stable and improving. I hope to have some photos to add to this site soon.

I have heard that the spaghetti dinner will be held on Friday December 10th between 5pm and 8pm at a lodge on Jennings Ave in Greenacres. I'll post more info on this as I get it.

On Thursday November 4th David Polk was run over by a speeding vehicle in the 4600 block of Empire Way in Greenacres Florida. David was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition . David suffered head and internal injuries and well as many broken bones. Nobody knew if David would survive . Family, friends , neighbors, teachers , and schoolmates all prayed for David.

On Thursday November 11th while David still remained in intensive care surgery was performed to stop internal bleeding and on some of his broken bones. After this David started making remarkable recovery. After 3 weeks David is still in the hospital and continues to make progress . David requires a lot of rest and is not allowed a lot visitors, so that he can recover.

I've set up this site so that those who would like to know how David is doing can come here for the latest information that I am aware of . David's grandparents would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers .

I saw on the news that a fund has been set up at Fidelity Federal to help with David's medical cost. To find the nearest branch office you can go to http://www.fidelityfederal.com/site/hurricane_list.html .

I have heard that there will be a spaghetti dinner on Friday December 10, 2004 in Greenacres. With proceeds going to help with David's medical cost. I'll post more information as I get it.
